🔥♻️ QA Heat Pump

QA Heat Pump is an application for advanced and economical heating management according to current spot electricity prices.
It intelligently plans heat pump operation to maintain thermal comfort in the home while shifting energy consumption to the cheapest hours of the day.
The application works closely with QA Spot Pro and uses the SG Ready protocol (SG1/SG2) for maximum savings.

💼 Commercial Presentation

A solution for heat pump owners who want to heat smartly and cheaply. The system automatically finds price lows in the electricity market and heats or overheats (accumulates heat) during these times.
During periods of expensive energy, heating is blocked. The result is reduced electricity bills without loss of comfort.

⚠️ Note

For proper operation, the heat pump must support SG Ready (relay control) or HDO signal (without pre-heating function), and external digital outputs must be installed to control SG1 and SG2 signals. For full application use, installation of an electricity meter for heat pump energy consumption is required.

⚙️ Key Features

Optimization by Price and Weather

  • Planning by Spot Prices: The application distributes the required number of operating hours into the cheapest time periods of the day.
  • Adaptability to Outdoor Temperature: Users define the curve of required operating hours (e.g., 12h in mild winter vs. 16h in freezing temperatures).
  • SG Ready Output Control:
    • SG1 (Block): Blocking the heat pump during expensive energy or HDO signal.
    • SG2 (Pre-heating): Forced operation and heat accumulation during extremely cheap hours, or pre-heating hot water (depending on heat pump settings).
  • Preventing Home Battery Discharge During Pre-heating: In pre-heating mode, the application blocks home battery discharge so the heat pump is powered exclusively from cheap grid electricity, preventing unwanted battery depletion.
  • Guaranteed Comfort: Users can specify daily time periods (e.g., morning, evening) when they require minimum operation regardless of price.
  • Consumption Reporting: Overview of energy including dependence on outdoor temperature.

Typical Use Cases

  • Automatic "accumulation" of floor heating at night or at noon when electricity price is lowest.
  • Limiting heat pump operation during morning and evening peak hours when electricity is most expensive.
  • Utilizing extremely low electricity prices for maximum pre-heating (heat accumulation) of the building.
  • Ensuring sufficient hot water and heat at specific times (return from work) through priority time slots.

🔌 Operating Conditions

  • Installed SPOT Pro application (source of price data and energy requirements).
  • Physical connection of outputs for SG1 and SG2 to the heat pump or connected HDO contact.
  • Correct setting of modes in the heat pump itself.
  • Electricity meter measuring heat pump energy consumption.
  • Optional: Connected HDO contact.

🧰 Setup and Configuration

  • Operating Hours Specification: Setting the number of operating hours for boundary outdoor temperatures (min/max design temperature).
  • Time Slots: Definition of minimum operating hours at specific times (considering thermal inertia and hot water).
  • Heat Pump Efficiency: Correction of expected consumption based on variable efficiency depending on outdoor temperature.
  • Heating Season: Ability to limit heat pump use only to the heating season.
  • Hardware Setup: Selection of SG1/SG2 signal sources, HDO, and electricity meter.
