⚡📟 QA EASTRON SDM630 Modbus Slave

QA EASTRON SDM630 Modbus Slave is a specialized application for reading values from a three-phase EASTRON SDM630 electricity meter. This version is designed for operation in Master-Slave mode, enabling connection of multiple devices to a single shared RS485 communication line.
The application does not communicate with the bus directly, but works with the essential master application QA Modbus Master, which coordinates all operations and queries on the line.

💼 Business Presentation

An ideal solution for energy management at facilities requiring measurement at multiple points (e.g., main switchboard, PV system, and EV charger) using a single ModbusRTU bus.
The Modbus Slave version eliminates the risk of mutual interference between applications and ensures high data stability. In the system, the application acts as a standard device providing ready-made values (voltage, current, power, frequency, energy) ready for immediate use.

📊 Analysis and Data Processing

For clear visualization, work with measurement history, and graphs, we recommend integration with SCADA Mervis.

⚖️ Advantages and Disadvantages of the Modbus Slave Solution

Advantages: Allows fully collision-free operation of multiple Slave-type devices on a single ModbusRTU communication line. Saves hardware (a single converter is sufficient) and clarifies network topology.
Disadvantages: The data reading frequency must be adapted to the number of devices on the bus. The more devices on a single line, the longer the response time when reading all values can be.

⚙️ Key Features

  • Master-Slave Architecture: Designed for systems with multiple Modbus devices on a single line.
  • Operation Optimization: Option to set different reading intervals for different groups of values (e.g., power every second, total energy once per hour).
  • Modular Data Selection: Activate only the values (child devices) that you actually use.
  • Easy Management: All configuration takes place within the application interface with binding to QA Modbus Master.

Typical Use Cases

  • Complex Monitoring: Monitoring multiple EASTRON electricity meters (SDM230/630) on a single bus.
  • Smart Buildings: Measuring consumption of individual rental units or technological modules.
  • PV Systems and Smart Grids: Precise coordination of generation and consumption data for advanced load management.

🔌 Operating Requirements

  • EASTRON SDM630 electricity meter with ModbusRTU communication.
  • Installed master application QA Modbus Master.
  • ModbusTCP/ModbusRTU converter (for connecting the RS485 line to the control system).
  • Set unique Modbus address for each device on the bus.
